Tenshi no Shippo (Angel Tails)
Fun for a while, but ultimately fairly shallow.Angel Tails is a rather simple story
of a man and the spirits of 12 of his previous pets coming back as cute
guardian angels. There's really not much more to it then that at the
start, so the series needs to rely on strong character roots to get by.
Luckily, it has some great and contrasting personalities to keep you
interested.
The guardian angels begin to arrive
when Ran (the goldfish), Kurumi (the hamster) and Tsubasa (the parakeet)
pop out of Goro Mutsumi's cell phone. Now granted a cell phone isn't
exactly the most creative way of introducing the angels, but it does
allow the writers to bring in new characters wherever Goro happens to be
without a complex explanation. This comes into play when Tamami (the
cat) pops out of the ol' porta-phone and interferes with a truck that
was trying to run Goro over. This brings about another facet of the
story; each angel has a trauma from their past life and how they died
that effects them to this day, like Tamami's fear of traffic. At least,
I assume they all have one, but the whole concept seems to dry up about
a quarter of the way through the series - a serious loss of potential
storylines.
