Tenshi no Shippo (Angel Tails)
Now that a weakness factor is removed,
all that's left is for the angels to bicker over Goro's attention and
affection. Thankfully the characters have dynamic and interwoven
personallities that keep things interesting, and are sometimes tied to
what animal the character was in their past life. Kurumi was a hamster
so she's always hungry, Mika and Ayumi (rabbit and turtle respectively)
are always at odds with one another thanks to Ayumi's slow/steady turtle
outlook and Mika's rabbit-like taste for a fast life. Mika also has the
most personality of any character in the series, due in to small part to
Yukana Nogami's voice work. She's spoiled, bossy, lazy, and always tries
to spirit Goro away for herself. However, Akane (the fox) has a
good grasp over Mika's actions since Mika is carnally afraid of being
hunted by the fox. All it takes is a well-placed "Mika
sannnn....." from Akane and Mika's back in line.
The story does begin to take on a
broader focus towards the end as little threads planted earlier in the
series with seemingly inconsequential scenes begin to make sense, and
the Guardian Angels face off against the Four Holy Beast Gods with
Goro's life at stake. It does however bog down what was a light-hearted
love comedy with unnecessary drama. Similar to the turn taken in Steel
Angel Kurumi, the series begins to take itself too seriously and slumps
because of it.
