Amaenaideyo!

Fan service abundant, but story missing

For some anime fans, it takes little more then half-naked drawings of gals in weird clothing to make a series for them. For those folks. I whole heartedly recommend Amaenaideyo. This is a series short on story, plot, and coherence, but heavy on the fan service. If that's your cup of tea, fine. Others may want to steer clear of this series as much as possible.

I ride between these two camps. Some fan service is welcome, but c'mon, a story - or at least something resembling it - would be nice, too. Amaenaideyo is about a shrine, it's resident nuns (six of them) and a young, lazy monk with a special power. That power? He gains the ability to do huge, massively powerful exorcisms when confronted with a nude female body. Or, to be more accurate, any time he's aroused. Thusly, most every episode has at least one scene where one or more of the girls ends up in a revealing situation to turn on his power and save the day. This, my friends, is what the authors try to pass off as the plot. Seriously, there's nothing more to it. I can't imagine who thought that this was enough to make an entire 13 episode series out of. One or two OVAs maybe, but not thirteen whole episodes. Then again, as I said in the opening, for some people that's all it takes.

The cast includes most of the anime stereotypes. There's the bubble-headed, big busted blonde, the shy, quiet girl, the serious, calculating gal in glasses, the tomboy, the serious and adult-like younger girl, and the violent but emotionally attached leading lady. If there's a stereotype this series missed, it's the kid who wants to be treated as a grown up. Yup, Amaenaideyo covers all the bases as far as interests are concerned.
