Head-to-Head: Basketball Game of the Year '09

It's our first head-to-head! Today we're comparing NBA 2K9 with NBA Live 09. To brief you on the way this works, a Slim Victory in one of the catagories is worth 1 point, while a Clear Win is worth 2. Let's get this thing started!

NBA 2K9 (SLIM VICTORY) NBA 2K9 has the edge here with players that just look more like themselves. Live isn't very far behind, though.	NBA 2K9 *(CLEAR WIN)* 2K9 is a walkaway winner here. Live 09 just can't compete with 2K9's arena, jersey and court textures.	NBA 2K9 *(CLEAR WIN)* I've never seen such lifelike animations in a sports title. When this game runs smooth, the players are insanely realistic.	NBA 2K9 *(SLIM VICTORY)* NBA 2K9 just edges out Live here with crowd sounds winning the day. Live's on court sounds, though, are very good.	NBA LIVE 09 *(CLEAR WIN)* There's no contest here, since Take Two seems to have mailed in their commentary yet again, while EA keeps upping the ante.

NBA 2K9 *(CLEAR WIN)* No comparison. 2K9 is the most believable basketball game ever made. Live is getting better, but this is still 2K9's strong suit.	NBA 2K9 *(SLIM VICTORY)* In a match of arcade-style hoops vs. sim action, it's truely in the eye of the beholder. I, for one, am a sim fan, so the points go to Take Two.	NBA LIVE 09 *(CLEAR WIN)* NBA 2K9, like MLB 2K8 before it, has serious framerate issues, while Live runs smooth most all of the time. 2K Sports needs to find an answer for this quickly.	NBA LIVE 09 *(SLIM VICTORY)* It's hard to say if either Living Rosters or Live 365 will beat out the other, but for shear potential, Live 09 takes this one.	NBA 2K9 Wins * 9-5 * NBA 2K9 takes it in a battle of glitz and gameplay vs. stability and potential. It's down to personal opinion, but for me, 2K9 wins.

If you prefer arcade leanings in your gameplay, you could either give Live 09 a Slim Victory or even a Clear Win in the Fun catagory, which could potentially tie the score. For my money, though, 2K9 is the better game. I hope this helps anyone on the fence about which game they want to buy decide what is for them. Until next time, Alphasim out.
