World of Warcraft: The Burning
Crusade(2007)
More WoW for your Buck
We continue our Late reviews by reviewing the first
expansion pack of World of Warcraft, the Burning Crusade. Besides the
obvious addition of the Outlands, BC adds two new races, makes
previously faction-exclusive classes available to the other side, and
raises the the level cap to 70. This is a great example of what an
expansion pack should be; more of the same, spiked with enough new
content to make people who had burnt themselves out on the game come
back renewed.
The two new races, the Draenai and the Blood Elves, are
unique enough to make you reroll again, with two new zones each and a ton of
unique quests apiece. The Draenai are an alien race to Azeroth and provide the
Alliance with their only class that can physically stand up to the Tauren. The
Blood Elves, on the other hand, are very clean-cut and stand out amongst the
other Horde races like a sore thumb. They are very popular though, (second only
to humans on most servers) and they provide a new spin on the paladin class.
You'll notice right away that the new races are composed by
many more polygons then the old races, and therefore have a much cleaner,
smoother look. This tends to make the older races look, well, old in
comparison.
